We hope that all overseas students at SYUCU can make good use of the time of May Day Holiday, enrich your knowledge, make Chinese friends, be kind to others, gain a deeper understanding of China, and share your thoughts and experiences with more people.

For the May Day Holiday, you will have a five-day holiday from 1 May to 5 May. Class will resume on 6 May. And Classes originally scheduled on 5 May (Monday) will be made up on 27 April (Sunday).

Below are the tips for you during the May Day Holiday.

1. Stay healthy and keep fit, raise safety awareness, pay more attention to your personal safety, fire safety, food hygiene, traffic safety and so on, and prevent you from the potential risk and danger.

Prevent fire accidents and eliminate potential safety hazards. Turn off the lights and cut off the power supply when no one is in home or dorm. Never leave the kitchen while cooking. Avoid overloading sockets. Unplug appliances when not in use. Report any damaged wires or outlets. Ensure your door is locked when you leave. Avoid sharing access keys with strangers.

2. Abide by Chinese laws and respect Chinese customs. Illegal acts such as working in China without the working permit, driving the cars or motor vehicles without a Chinese driving license or drunk driving，failing to register at the police station in the residence of place within 24 hours after your arrival, causing a fire in the house due to your individual fault, residing in China illegally as a result of failing to extend your visa before it expires，taking drug or marijuana，making noise or disturbing others at midnight，fighting with others or damaging the public property, harbor or hide foreigners who illegally enter or reside in China and so on. The acts mentioned-above are illegal, you will face punishments from the police in line with the circumstances and consequences, including warning, fines, detention, ordered to leave China with a time limit, visa cancelled, criminal charges and be sent to prison or repatriated.

Do not engage in any illegal activities. No one can help you out if you are found doing something illegal by the police. Your visa extension will be rejected if you have any illegal acts that are recorded by the immigration.

3. Keep us informed of any changes of your location or travel plans in advance according to relevant regulations. Please report to your head teacher in advance if you plan to leave Shenyang and travel to other cities, and send the tickets to your head teacher. If you meet with any trouble, please let us know the first time.

According to <Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China>Article 39, For foreigners who reside or stay in domiciles other than hotels, they or the persons who accommodate them shall, within 24 hours after the foreigners’ arrival, go through the registration formalities with the public security organs in the places of residence. Thus, during the May Day Holiday, if you change the house to live, please renew the accommodation registration at the police station in time. If you travel to other cities and live in your friends or relatives’ house, please ask them to take you to the police station to go through the registration formality within 24 hours of your arrival. In addition, if you live in the hotel, please ask for the accommodation registration certificate from the hotel.
