Anti-Fraud Education Guide for International Students in China
Release date: 2025-05-28        publisher: 张荣海         office viewed:

1. Common Scams Targeting Foreign Students

Phone/Text Scams: Fraudsters may impersonate government officials (e.g., police, immigration), banks, or courier services, claiming issues with your visa, bank account, or packages. They may demand money or personal information.

Online Scams: Fake job offers, investment schemes, or phishing emails/websites designed to steal passwords, bank details, or identity information.

Identity Theft: Requests to "borrow" your bank account, phone number, or personal documents for "registration purposes."

Fake Relationships: Scammers build trust through social media or dating apps, then ask for money for emergencies or travel.

Counterfeit Tickets/Goods: Fraudulent sales of discounted flight tickets, event tickets, or luxury goods.

2. Prevention Tips

Protect Personal Information: Never share your passport, bank details, student ID, or passwords with strangers. Avoid posting sensitive information online.

Verify Official Contacts: Government agencies or banks will NEVER ask for payments via phone/text. Hang up and call the official hotline (e.g., 110 for police) to confirm.

Avoid Suspicious Links: Do not click on unverified links in emails/messages, even if they appear to be from trusted sources.

Use Secure Payment Methods: Avoid transferring money to strangers. Use trusted platforms (e.g., Alipay, WeChat Pay) with buyer protection.

Stay Alert to "Too Good to Be True" Offers: High-paying part-time jobs, free trips, or investment opportunities with guaranteed returns are often scams.

Install Security Apps: Use apps like China’s National Anti-Fraud Center App (国家反诈中心) to detect and report scams.

3. Emergency Response

If You’ve Been Scammed:

Seek help from your head teacher

Contact Your Bank Immediately to freeze your account.

Call 110 (police) or visit the nearest police station to file a report.

Inform Your University’s International Office for assistance.

Save Evidence: Keep records of calls, messages,转账 (transfers), and screenshots.

Remember: Scammers often exploit fear, urgency, or trust. Stay calm, verify information, and seek help from authorities or your head teacher. Your safety is the top priority!
